Interview - Fat Freddy's Drop

Their concert is this 7th of November at Pavilhão dos Lombos in Carcavelos. This is the image from their new album.

Brief Introduction by Rosa Mariposa:

I have come across their rhythm a short but intense time ago . It's a pleasure to hear their warm sound, wherever we are, whenever we need. It's profound, the groovy soul is fulfilling and it makes you feel that everything is possible. Don't know why. Can't explain it. It's just magic, your kind of magic. From mellow it goes to funky, from a dub landscape it transforms itself in a jazzy truly expressive experience. Thank you for the inspiration. Go to their site!

The Interview

Rosa Mariposa: You're so many, are you all coming to Portugal? How did you all meet?

Fat Freddy's Drop (Hopepa): Yeah we're all coming to play in Lisbon. Wellington is a small town and we met through the tight knit musical community.

R.S.: Have you ever visited or do you know anything about this Latin/Atlantic country?

FFD: We have been to Portugal twice so far. We played support for the Black Eyed Peas in Algarve, a couple of years ago. We also played at Casino Lisboa earlier on this year. Had a great time. Very cool audience.

R.S.: Your shows are quite improvised, how do you manage yourselves when you're at the stage?

FFD: We like to just take our time and go with the flow.

R.S.: How and why did you start playing this beautiful and meaningful sound?

FFD: We were lucky to find each other

R.S.: What is your advise for someone that is starting?

FFD: Develop your live show.

R.S.: How many times a week do you gather in Wellington? Do you have other professions or is this full-time?

FFD: We are full time musicians. We have seen a lot of each other recently during the recording of our new album.

R.S.: How does the place you live influence your art?

FFD: I think we are all products of our environment. Whether it be cultural, geographical or musical.

R.S.: On your productions you communicate a love for the musical activity, tell us why? What does it bring you?

FFD: Music is an essential part of life. A way of expressing life. It's worth celebrating.

R.S.: How do you know when the public surrenders?

FFD: When they close their eyes and smile.

Hopepa represented all the band in this interview, he's Fat Freddy's trombone player. Have a fabulous concert!
